IM’ing and texting - mental illness?

I thought this was really interesting:

Excessive texting may be a mental illness. So, if someone gets diagnosed with this “illness,” does that mean s/he gets free “happy” pills? Just curious.

Speaking of texting, I thought this was cool, too: Netlingo is like a dictionary for the new language of SMS. I myself am too much of a stickler for grammar and spelling to use this sort of thing. On the rare occasion, I will use acronyms, but usually I spell everything out properly. Maybe it’s the writer in me. Who wants to read a novel in text lingo?

Week of June29: Random Nosy Questions

1. What are your plans for today? I need to get ready for the week. I start my new job on Tuesday!!
2. Who was the last person you talked on the phone with? Imah.
3. What was the last tv program you watched? I watched a recording of Burn Notice. Jeffrey Donovan is awesome!
4. What was the last thing you ate? Oven baked pizza. A surprisingly delectable one!
5. What time did you get out of bed today? Around 9am.

Ugh. It’s so hot today! I’m so grateful for cool, refreshing water and sugarless, coffee-flavored ice cream! My Prince came over this weekend and we had a Dune movie marathon. We almost finished it, too, but we had to drive him down to the bus station. That’s ok. I know what happens to poor Alia. I know what course of destiny Leto chooses for himself. The movie was actually very good. It didn’t follow the books, naturally–there’s just so much to cover–but it did a good job.

Now, I must prepare for the week. Tomorrow is my last day off before I start my new job. I’ll be sure to chronicle my complaints next Sunday. LOL!

Farewell!

My Last Free Friday

Friday’s Feast 195:

Appetizer

What is the weather like today where you live? It’s hot and sunny today! …I miss the rain.

Soup

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how career-minded are you? I’d put myself at a 4–unless, of course, I can make my writing my career. Then, I’d be an 11.

Salad

What type of window coverings do you have in your home? Blinds, curtains, shutters, etc.? Blinds. Boring.

Main Course

Name something that instantly cheers you up? My Prince! And bubble baths! Writing doesn’t necessarily cheer me up, but it helps me cope/sort things out.

Dessert

How many times do you hit the snooze button on a typical morning? Rarely, but when I do, only once.

Friday Fill In #78:

1. Birthdays are a good excuse to party.

2. Fall is my favorite season because there’s something magical about that change of weather/season.

3. I feel my best when my Prince is around to cheer me up and motivate me. He’s the best!

4. Anything my Prince cooks is my favorite food!

5. First impressions are deceiving.

6. The best piece of advice I ever received was don’t let other people get you down.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward hoping to seeing my Prince, tomorrow my plans include getting briefed by an “insider” on my new job and Sunday, I want to welcome my Evil Twin back from camp!

My last day of work went well. I got some contact info from a few more people, so that was nice. I almost missed my bus home, though–that was not so nice.

Yesterday was quite an adventure. I took a short walk to get my nails done (gold again) and, seeing I had plenty of time before the next bus came by, walked back home and had lunch. I took the bus to Walmart for the first time–only to discover that, though the bus passes right by the store, it doesn’t actually stop anywhere near there. Great. Well, I got my exercise for the day walking back to the store. Good thing it was a nice (but not too hot) day.

Met Imah there while I was shopping. She offered to take me home to drop off my stuff and then swing me over to my appointed visit with my Systers of the Grand Cauldron of Mischief (as my Prince calls my Girls).

Once with my other family, I got suckered into watching Johnny English by the boys. Gag me! What a horrible movie. And the villian! I have never heard a worse French accent. He totally butchered it!

Well, I must go. Imah is on her way home, and she wants me to help her out with some stuff. Farewell for now!

This week’s questions are book related….

1. Who are your favorite authors? Stephanie Meyer, Frank Herbert, Dean Koontz, Patrick McManus, Kay Hooper, James Herriot, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Richard Preston.
2. What are your favorite books? Twilight (Stephanie Meyer), The Hot Zone (Richard Preston), and The Dune Chronicles (Frank Hebert).
3. What kind of books do you tend to read? Sci-fi, Romance, Mystery…etc…? I enjoy supernatural thrillers, fantasy, and sci-fi. I also like classic literature.
4. Do you prefer to borrow books from the library or buy them? Borrow from the library.
5. Do you prefer hardcover or paperback? Hardcover looks nicer, but as someone who is always carrying a book around, I prefer paperback. Not only is it cheaper, but it weighs less than its hardcover counterpart.
6. What was the last book you read? What are you reading now? The last book I read was God Emperor of Dune by Frank Herbert. I am now reading Arabian Nights.
7. Do you read everyday? Usually.
8. On average how many books do you read per year? Oh geez. A minimum of 12.
9. Do you belong to any book clubs? No.
10. Recommend a good book. I recommend Arabian Nights. Also, The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.

Got to see my Prince this weekend!! It was so fun! He came over and watched Enchanted, Ice Age - The Meltdown, and The Incredibles with me. Enchanted was the only one I’ve seen before. My Girlz told my Prince I need a daily dosage of movies because I’ve seen so few. LOL! So, they let me borrow theirs whenever I can. And Prince always brings some of his when he comes over. This time he brought these awesome foreign films featuring muay thai martial artists. Wow. It puts American martial arts to shame. Wow.

All for now. Must do laundry and prepare for my last week at this job. I start my new job July 1st!!

The Happening…Still Didn’t Happen

Categories: Friends, Movies, My Prince

I finally got to see the Happening. My Evil Twin and one of her brothers picked me up and then we swung by the mall to get my Prince. Right before we go in, My Evil Twin tells us that her sister didn’t like the movie–the sister who is a diehard M. Night Shyamalan fan. She and the Prince go on about all the people who mentioned not liking the movie. Gee, thanks, guys. I really like your timing.

Now, I’m not an expert when it comes to Shyamalan films, but I think he should stick to PG-13 movies. The idea awesome–people suddenly killing themselves for no apparent reason. Sounds like something I would read…if not write. And I like how you never really know the cause. Yet, we felt let down. The movie seemed to be building up to something, but never reached its crescendo. My poor, traumatized Evil Twin came out of the theater feeling depressed. Now that’s sad.

To cheer ourselves up, we stopped to get some nice, cold ice cream (it was a horribly hot day). Mm, caramel latte ice cream–my new favorite!!!

My Prince and I went back to my place and watched Enchanted with Imah. This was my second time watching it. I love this movie! I want both it and Stardust. I can’t decide which I like best. I’ll have to watch Stardust again…

The Happening…didn’t happen

Unconscious Mutterings, week 281:

  1. Purchase :: new stuff! Yay!
  2. Squeaky clean :: polish
  3. Blended :: smoothie
  4. Wednesday :: the week’s half-over!
  5. Function :: I need sleep in order to function.
  6. Look down :: Don’t…!
  7. July? :: It never fails to rain on the 4th of July parade.
  8. Raspberry :: blow…
  9. Assertive :: someone who knows what they want.
  10. Cracker :: …jacks

Her Majesty’s party went well. We checked out her and Tigger’s new apartment and then sat down to play Imagine If. I am determined to have that game now. It’s awesomely fun! We paused a short while to dish up dinner and went immediately back to the game. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to finish. We stopped to have Her Majesty open her presents (mine is being shipped to her).

She totally stole my idea, though. She gave presents to her guest–which is something I was going to do at my next birthday party. Just for something novel. Anyway, I got a really cute card and a girly pack of Mary Kay stuff. I know there’s an actual name for that kind of roll-up case, but, being fairly new to my girly side, I don’t have everything down yet. Tinted lip gloss is as close to make-up as I come.

Anyway, then it was time to go see The Happening. That was my one disappointment. The person in front of us got the last ticket!! Grr. I’m not even going to talk about how pissed I am at not seeing Prince Caspian yet. If I didn’t feel so nauseated this weekend, I’d go to the theater by myself!

All for now. I’m going to soothe my ruffled feathers by checking out all the cute Betty Boop stuff on Amazon!

My Dark Side

Categories: Q & Q, Fun Sites

Take this test!
Your dark little secret is … well, you’re almost too chilled out to tell us, right? You’d rather take a long, leisurely afternoon nap than do almost anything else, and we have to admit we can hardly blame you. Things like running marathons and pulling all-nighters are best left to the people who really enjoy them, at least as far as you’re concerned. You make relaxation not just a pastime but an art form.

Of course you can get things taken care of when you have to, and you’re a master at getting the job done way ahead of time to leave more time for reclining and relaxing. That’s what life is for — just don’t sleep in too late!

There’s nothing in the trunk, Officer.

I’m going to a Murder Mystery birthday party on Friday for Her Majesty. I asked her if I could be the "murderer" but she told me we don’t get to pick–and the "murderer" gets tortured. Preferring not to be tortured by anyone other than my Prince, I revoked my offer. ;)

So, Friday is going to be a long day, because I took a 7am-3pm shift to cover at work. Then, the Murder Mystery night, then, we’re going to see The Happening–probably around midnight.

Fortunately, today I have a short work shift. I’m going to get to bed tonight extra early.

Week of June 8: More nosey questions
1. What is your favorite day of the week? Saturday.
2. How do you usually wear your hair? In a ponytail.
3. What is your favorite item of clothing? Oo, that’s a toughy. Either my necklace or shoes.
4. Where would your dream vacation be? Italy!
5. Who is your favorite author? book? Dune or Children of Dune. Both written by Frank Herbert.
6. How often do you log on? 3 or 4 times a week.
7. What is one of your favorite internet sites to visit? Meez.com
8. Coke or Pepsi? There’s some kind of Pepsi called Vanilla Cherry Jazz or something like that. It is my favorite.
9. Do you prefer healthy snacks or junk food? Depends. I don’t care much for junk food anymore. I love Wheat Thins.
10. Are you a morning person or a night owl? I’m a night owl. Unfortunately, my job usually dictates I get up early.

I have great news! I just can’t release it for another two weeks or so. Let’s just say that my life is going to take a turn for the better. In a year or so, who knows what I’ll be doing. Imah’s considering moving to Oregon to be with family. I wouldn’t mind going too–if I knew the Prince could be nearby. Life is pretty precarious–but at least it’s becoming a good thing.

A Light at the End of the Tunnel?

Categories: My life, Work, My Prince

Well, there is perhaps a light at the end of the tunnel. My Prince and I resolved some issues, and I got some great life advice (because my Prince is also a King of Wisdom).

So, my attitude has improved. I’m going to work to keep it that way.

What really made my day was a call I received before starting work this morning. Finally, one of the employers I applied with made contact with me! I have an interview on Friday. I’m confident I can get the job, I’m just so afraid of letdown. So, I’m trying not to get too excited and trying to make the best of my current job.
