To dance…or not to dance

Unconscious Mutterings: I say…and you think…?

  1. Italy :: heist (The Italian Job)
  2. Honk :: car horn
  3. Shades :: cool eyeware
  4. Tool :: internet
  5. Modern :: times (story setting)
  6. Tension :: breaker
  7. Conservative :: style
  8. Weight :: on the mind
  9. Insurance :: (take a look at #8)
  10. Political :: mudslinging!

I’m going dancing tonight. Supposedly–dancing, that is. I am going, I just don’t know if I’ll be dancing. I only know a few of the dances because I’m at the intermediate level and this group tonight is advanced. Eh, well, I foresee some fun out of it. emoticon

I might not have decided to go, but Monday evening dance has been indefinitely cancelled. Joseph got promoted to manager at his job (mazel tov! I won’t say anymore than that; his ego is strong enough already emoticon ) and won’t have the time for dance class.

While I cheer and congratulate him, I am disappointed about no dance. Ah well, work is more important. Once day, though, we’ll all be able to follow our dreams. Joseph can teach dance all over the world; Princess Josi can dance barefooted with her husband in Australia; and I can write serial novels…doing internet research in my spare time. *sigh*

I’ll be a Good Girl, I Will

Categories: My life, Memes

Booking Through Thursday

  1. Have you read Lord of the Rings? No.
  2. If so, how many times have you read it? Just once? Or so many you can’t count? I said no.
  3. If not, why not? Not your cup of tea? I don’t really know. I may read the trilogy one day. I just have so many other things higher on my list of things to read.
  4. And, while we’re on the subject, did you see the Oscar-winning movie(s)? What did you think? I loved the movies. The action/suspense twisted my stomach into knots like nothing I’ve ever experienced–but I enjoyed them. I even watched Return of the King a second time–excluding the spider part. (I may love spiders, but I just can’t handle that thing when it attacks.)

I found myself humming the Jeopardy theme this morning at work. I try to watch it whenever I can. It helps stay sharp and learn new facts. Two days ago, I surprised myself. If I had been an actual participant on the show, I could very well have won! It’s so fun being smart (it’s fun being a smart-alec, too, but that’s another issue).

Oh yes, something I didn’t mention before because I felt unsure about it. Was it just a mood? I came home from camp physically exhausted but mentally (and, yes, spiritually) refreshed. For months, I had been wanting to "get away". Life was overwhelming me. I wanted to slow down, take time for my spiritual needs. Sadly, I wasn’t strong enough to even stay off the internet. The internet is practically my life. How could I just drop it (however much I wanted to)?

The opportunity to go to camp as a counselor gave me the chance. The only technology allowed to us at camp was the lights and fan for our cabins and the hot water for showers. Of course, I missed my computer dreadfully. But I’m so glad now that I had the time away from it–away from the distractions of life that detract from the finer things. How I can I explain those blissful moments in the woods with the sunlight filtering through the transculent leaves and the gentle breeze caressing my cheek? (I have a thing with woods, ok?) I actually spent time in the sun! Impressive for a relatively indoor hermit. emoticon

All this to say, I don’t find any interest in my "bad girl" persona. I want to be a good girl now. (Please, excuse that noise. It’s just a bunch of people who claim they know me laughing themselves to hysteria.) This does not mean that I am turning anti-war or forsaking my God-given 2nd amendment rights. I suppose I’m just growing up–finally. (Hey! What’s with you guys?  Shut up already!)

Back from Camp!

Categories: My life, Memes

I’m back!! *cheers* emoticon(j/k)

I would have blogged sooner, but I got some more people hooked on my story, so I had to work on that–really hard. At last, it’s all up to date. But, hey, that’s for my writing blog.

My two weeks at camp were exhausting. The first week wasn’t all that bad: it rained, the showers ran out of hot water quickly, I helped the craft class, I didn’t have to swim in the saltwater, I ran into my superior while a friend was teaching me a dance (we should have been doing something else)–I mixed the good with the bad. You readers can sort it out.

The second week seemed worse: the hot water went out for the bathroom and I had to take an ice-cold shower on an already shiveringly-cold morning; the girls in my charge had an unlimited source of energy (and mischievousness)–which they couldn’t seem to use for cleaning the cabin; the sun was blisteringly hot during the day (I do not do well with heat); during one of these blisteringly hot afternoons, we "got to" (instead of "had to") play soccer–I am not a sports person–can you say "heat stroke"? emoticon Still, I didn’t have to go anywhere near that horrid saltwater; I didn’t get to do archery emoticon; I learned croquet; someone from the week before kindly gave me a gift which I am still enjoying even now–a sinus infection. Got tissue? (And anti-bacterial soap?)

Wow. I try to be positive, but I had to get out. I can’t say that I regret going though. I gleaned a great deal from those two weeks. My friends and I performed some awesome skits for those little girls. I made new friends. I got a tan. More people want to read my novel. And I was reminded yet again through the dear, little darlings that I should never have children.

Thank you and goodnight. emoticon (I’m going to sleep some more…)

Indepence Day

Categories: Random

Oh dear…with all the excitement of going to camp, I’ve forgotten to say:

Happy (belated) Birthday, America!

And Happy Independence Day to the rest of you. emoticon

Lonely Planet

Categories: My life

Yes, the great Planet Yaffa will be lonely from now until Sunday the 23rd (unless I’m too tired to blog that day–which is highly probable). It has just been confirmed today that I will indeed be going to camp this summer! Oh the joy! The children, the salty air, the free food…the critters sharing your bed, the unruly jellyfish…I will not get into a boat!! Aaaah…the joy.

Sadly, I will have no access to the internet while I’m away (what kind of camp is this anyway?!), and I’ll be much to busy with packing for the rest of the week because I leave Friday after work…and I haven’t started packing yet. I’ll be gone a whole week!

And when I’m packing, I’m like a chicken with its head cut off–rushing about in a blind flurry. No matter what, I always manage to leave something behind.

One week it was my toothpaste. "Hi, can I borrow your toothpaste?" "*ahem!* Is it ok if I just use some of your toothpaste?" "Hey! Cool toothpaste! Mind I try some?" Trust me, it gets embarrassing.

Another week, it was my pillow. Let me tell you, books are great–but not for pillows. And, when asking someone if you can borrow her pillow, try to ask about lice with extreme diplomacy. Pillows can hurt.

At least, the camp director has a great sense of humor. I expect this year he may come up with another nickname for me–something other than "the zombie".

Eh-heh…emoticon

Visiting Her Majesty

Categories: My life

As I mentioned previously, I am away from home right now, visiting her majesty, Princess Josi (and tormenting her & her family). It’s funny how my old impish side comes back around certain people…and how much fun it is.

Tomorrow, I go to dance to wreak more havoc. If I make it through today…Gustove did not appreciate the torture session I gave him yesterday. Of course, I have to watch out for her majesty, too.

Other than mischief-making, I’m occupying myself with my writing, my reading, and watching Gustove play Fable (I like that game! At least…when Gus plays it. Hehe!)
